About Jana Pochop (yes, the "h" is silent) was born on a cold, snowy, November day in South Dakota. This may explain why Jana gravitates towards furnaces, coffee houses, bug zappers, tube amps, and other warm things. After picking up the guitar at the age of 12 and putting it down only for meals and a brief period of learning how to drive, Jana started performing in high school for a variety of talent shows/charity functions/circus events. Now she is a wandering 20-something-just-graduated History major from the University of New Mexico who will do anything to avoid writing academic papers ever again. She spent time collaborating as a guitarist with the Albuquerque-based Bookworms, a name that almost fit too well. A guitar player now for 12 years and a songwriter for 4, Jana spends her days huddled in front of a stereo listening to the songwriting collections of Mary Chapin Carpenter, Kristyn Osborn (Shedaisy), Patty Griffin, Kathleen Edwards, Rosanne Cash, and John Jennings just to name a few. She is often found by small bodies of water (duck ponds, sinks, rain puddles) scribbling in her notebook in the hopes that no one she is writing about in her songs recognizes themselves, because she is loathe to give up any future royalties. Jana resides on iPod play lists from Australia to California to Ireland, and rumor has it that some of her lyrics are even attached to a fridge somewhere in the Midwest, though this report has not been confirmed. Jana now lives in Austin, TX as is acclimating to the amazing amount of BBQ sauce available at (and on) her fingertips.
